After Hours & Weekend Help

I am having trouble viewing PDFs in EBSCOhost and ProQuest databases.

I am using Google Chrome, and the PDFs won't open in my browser.

Note: This information addresses a Google Chrome setting that causes issues reading a PDF article in databases.

The Google Chrome browser comes with a built-in PDF viewer.

If a setting in Google Chrome gets changed, the PDF will download instead of being embedded in the database.

This appears to be a problem only with Google Chrome. Embedded PDFs in the databases will work with Firefox.

You can get around this problem by changing the PDF document setting in Google Chrome.

  • In the Chrome browser, select the three vertical dots in the upper right corner.
  • Choose Settings > Privacy and security
  • Select Site Settings > scroll down and select Aditional content settings
  • Select PDF documents.
  • Make sure the Default behavior is set to Open PDFs in Chrome

After following those steps, you should be able to view PDFs within library databases--without even having to restart your browser!
