Can I use the Cite button in library databases?

Many of the databases available through OCLS offer citation assistance with a Cite button.

You can use the Cite button as a quick start, but use it with caution.

  • These citations are computer generated and most of the time there are errors that will cause you to lose APA points.
  • The suggested APA citation from the tools in any database should be considered just a quick starter.
  • Do not copy and paste the citation into your paper or assignment. ALWAYS double-check it against APA rules and correct the mistakes.
  • Some common changes you'll need to make to the citation are:
    • Author's name order and initials
    • Capitalization of book or article titles
    • Checking that the page numbers are correct
